The collection consists of four items: postal card to Geo. D. Barron, 30 Aug. 1906, stating that Papyrus is no more; to Mr. Barron, 30 April 1907, announcing a new run of Papyrus, and asking for money to put the journal on a solid footing; to Dear Mr. Barron, 24 May 1907, thanking him for his contribution; carbon of typed, unsigned letter to Monahan, from Barron, 22 Aug. 1907, responding to Monahan's 30 April letter, enclosing a check for ten dollars [not extant].

Michael Monahan was a poet and editor. Born in County Cork, Ireland, he moved to the United States and became a reporter and, later, editor. He wrote poetry and non-fiction, including works on Jean d'Arc and Heinrich Heine, and toured extensively as a lecturer. He founded the journals Papyrus and Phoenix.
